Janaya D. Washington is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the State of Maryland and the Commonwealth of Virginia. She has more than 11 years of audit and advisory experience.
Prior to founding Janaya Washington, CPA, Janaya served as a Senior Manager at the largest CPA firm in the U.S. that is dedicated solely to Federal financial management. In this role, she led teams of Managers, Senior Auditors and Staff Auditors in the completion of financial statement audits and performance audits.
Janaya served as an Advisory Senior at the largest minority-owned CPA firm in the U.S. While there, she improved the operations of a federal government client by assessing the current state of their asset management practices and making recommendations for a future state roadmap. As part of a large team, Janaya corrected payroll errors at a multinational electricity and gas utility company by utilizing SAP ® enterprise resource planning (ERP) software. Additionally, Janaya standardized internal controls at a Fortune 100 energy company and its acquisition target, a local public utility company, as part of an Advisory project team.
Janaya served as a Senior Auditor at the standard-setter for governmental audits, the U.S. Government Accountability Office. In this role, she completed internal control testing and substantive testing for financial statement audits, contributed to a project to evaluate the operations of an Office of Inspector General, and drafted sections of audit reports.
Janaya began her career as a Staff in the Assurance practice of one of the largest global professional service firms, where she completed substantive and internal control testing at clients in the consumer products, oil and gas and real estate industries, including a Fortune 50 and a Fortune 1000 client.
Janaya communicates and presents confidently to clients at the senior management, executive and Chief Financial Officer levels. She has managed personnel at the Staff, Senior, and Manager levels, including planning work assignments, setting deadlines, providing guidance, coaching and on-the-job training, drafting performance evaluations and providing feedback.
Janaya is a co-chair of the Awards Committee for the Montgomery/Prince George's County Chapter of the Association of Government Accountants. Janaya has been a member of the Junior League of Washington since 2016, where she volunteers for an organization that empowers women to overcome homelessness.
Janaya holds a B.S. in Management and an MBA from Florida A& M University in Tallahassee, FL. Janaya is also a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM), and a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA).
